I’ve been so incredibly busy lately. I’ve been subbing a bunch of classes in addition to teaching my regular classes over the last few weeks. Just in the last two days, I’ve worked two, back-to-back double shifts at the restaurant I work at outside of teaching yoga. Without yoga or investing the time into my own self-care, I’d have nothing left to give.
Self-care is a worthy investment. You’ve got to keep making deposits into your self-care account. Why? Because you deserve it. Life is busy. Our days are filled with work, doing things we have to do, doing things for other people and doing things we might not want to do. We’re so busy taking care of other people, but who takes care of us?
Invest in yourself with self-care. Take the yoga class. Go on the hike. Light the candle. Take a bubble bath. Read the book. Sleep in. Get a pedicure. Eat the ice cream. Go to brunch.
My challenge for my students (as well as myself) today and this week is to gift yourself some self-care. If you’re going to a yoga class, unplug from your phone for the entire hour. Leave it in the locker room instead of bringing it into the studio with you. Focus on reconnecting with your breath throughout class. Do what feels good in your body. Take breaks whenever you need them.
Still undecided on if self-care is a worthy investment? Here’s a great quote to ponder,
“An empty lantern provides no light. Self-care is the fuel that allows your light to shine brightly.”
How good are you without any light? Fuel your fire this week with some self-care. It doesn’t have to be expensive. It doesn’t have to be time consuming. Pick one or maybe two nice things to do for yourself this week and then do them.
Tell me below, what nice thing are you going to do for yourself this week?
